Part 3: Renaissance - A New Chapter for Fujian White Tea

Since 1950, China Tea(Fujian) has always been committed to the production, promotion, processing, R&D, study, management, and domestic and international trade of Chinese white tea. It has played a positive role in driving the development of Fujian white tea, ensuring the sustainable growth of white tea trade. Therefore, the business history of China Tea(Fujian), in terms of white tea, to a certain extent, could generally be deemed as the business history of Fujian white tea itself.

 

In 1951, the company began to participate in the coordination and management of the market. The company established some designated tea factories in major white tea-producing areas such as Fuding for the centralized control of the acquisition, processing, and allocation of tea leaves. The tea was then transported to ports like Fuzhou for export to countries and regions including Hong Kong, Macau, Malaysia, Germany, Japan, Singapore, the United States, and Peru.

In 1954, all production and export of Fujian white tea were set as state-controlled procurement and sales, and were assigned to be undertaken by China Tea(Fujian).

 

In 1956, the China Tea schemed its port operations based on the origin of tea, meaning all white tea was exported through Fujian ports. This approach of combining production and sales greatly promoted the tea production and tea export.

In 1968, the new processing techniques of white tea was developed，the company’s export of white tea exceeded 200tons for the first time, and further reached up to more than 300 tons in the next year in 1969, making a great contribution to the national economic construction.

From the late 1980s to the present, the company has dispatched trade teams to Hong Kong, Macau, Malaysia, Japan, the United States, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, Pakistan, and other countries and regions several times. They have participated in numerous international exhibitions and overseas tasting events, engaging in friendly international exchanges. Through tea as a medium, they have built a bridge for spreading Chinese tea culture.

In March 2025, the company sincerely invited overseas partners, tea lovers, and consumers to participate in the overseas solicitation activity titled "My Stories with China Tea(Fujian)", jointly opening the album of time and writing beautiful stories together!

Over the past 75 years, China Tea(Fujian) has made irreplaceable and outstanding contributions to the establishment of production and circulation order for Fujian tea, supporting the domestic  economic construction, the recovery of Fujian's tea industry, and the dissemination of Fujian tea and Chinese tea worldwide.
