A Fragrant Journey Begins

Jasmine tea, a traditional Fujian famed tea, has long been popular across northern and northeastern China. After its founding in 1949, China Tea actively supported the making of jasmine tea with baked-fixation green tea to produce a tea of high, clean aroma and pure taste. In 1950, China Tea(Fujian) was established.

New China’s first tea export contract was signed by China Tea, with a total amount of 10,500mts. The 120mts of Jasmine tea and 670mts of multi-grade Fujian Black tea included in this contract were assigned to be shipped by China Tea(Fujian). Since then, China Tea (Fujian) has carried its signature jasmine tea, prized for its rock-sugar sweetness and jasmine aroma, beyond China's borders.

Around 1973, the "Little Yellow Tin" series came into being.A wisp of jasmine fragrance then set sail on its long voyage to worldwide. Building on this, China Tea (Fujian) carried its reach from Southeast Asia across to Japan, Europe, the Americas and Oceania, and a global presence steadily took shape.

The "Little Yellow Tin" jasmine tea series developed for export at the time comprised item Nos. 1030 (120 g), 1031 (50 g), 1032 (½ lb / 227 g), 1033 (1 lb / 454 g), 1034 (250 g) and 1035 (500 g),  of which Nos. 1032 and 1033 as top-seller. The "Little Yellow Tin" jasmine tea is made from leaves carefully selected from ecological tea gardens in Fujian. Spring flushes of one bud with one or two leaves are picked and processed into baking-fixation green tea, which is then refined into the base tea. Premium jasmine blossoms are added at a set tea-to-flower ratio and scented using both traditional craftsmanship and modern techniques. The result is a brilliant tea product with strong, mellow taste and fresh, rich aroma, deeply loved by consumers around the world.

A
 letter from an American consumer:

“My family and I have been purchasing and using your Jasmine Tea for over 35 years after having used it quite regularly for most of my life. I told my elderly mother in Michigan today about your gift of this tea, and she was much impressed --- she was the one who first started purchasing your jasmine tea for our family, back in the middle 1970s, and as of last year I know she still had it on her pantry shelf.”

“Wherever Chinese people gather, you'll find the ‘Little Yellow Tin”,An overseas distributor partner of China Tea (Fujian) recalls: "The very first product we sold overseas was your 'Little Yellow Tin.' Overseas Chinese like it and this packaging, just one look, they know ChinaTea’s jasmine tea."

From a corner grocery store in New York's Chinatown to supermarket shelves across the United States and Canada, and onto advertising wrapped around moving vans, the "Little Yellow Tin" has always held its place. From decades-old shops on Petaling Street in Kuala Lumpur to Chinese communities around the world, it is, for many, quite simply "the taste of home."

Winner of numerous prestigious awards

In 1985 and 1986, China Tea (Fujian)'s Grade-One jasmine tea twice received the International Quality Golden Laurel Leaf Award from CIAG. In 2015, the organizing committee of the International Tea Industry Conference presented the "Little Yellow Tin" jasmine tea with the "Golden Silk Road" Merit Award, establishing its renowned position both at home and abroad.

Not Just a Tea

From the 1980s on, the "Little Yellow Tin" became a sensation overseas. Its empty tins were often repurposed as household coin banks for spare change; it also became a popular fixture in fruit gift baskets presented to friends and family; and restaurant owners bought it in bulk as their house tea, where it won the favor of diners.

It even made appearances in Hollywood blockbuster, in CCTV documentaries and in Chinese HK and Taiwan films.

A Refreshed Classic, Inheriting Craftsmanship

In 2023, the company upgraded the processing lines and introduced the intelligent and automated machines. No matter how the packaging of "Yellow Tin" evolves, its quality remains consistently excellent. Today, the "Little Yellow Tin" carries a sense of nostalgia — yet it has also found its way onto the menus of new-style tea houses, appearing as cold-brew jasmine and sparkling jasmine. Where tradition meets what's new.

For over half a century, "Little Yellow Tin" has never been absent.
